I will be doing Weekly Premier League predictions, in which I will be predicting the results of the fixtures on that Game Week. The plan is to get someone else involved each week to share their predictions to create a little competition. Each ‘guest’ and I will score 2 points for guessing the correct result, with 5 points being awarded for the correct score. I will try to get a few guests nailed down early in order to have them back on a fair number of times throughout the year in order to create a leaderboard at the end. (Reach out if you would like to get involved in the future.)
First up this week is my good pal, Conor Hogarth (@hogilfc) who has kindly stepped up to the plate to provide his thoughts on how GW1 will pan out.
Our predictions are as follows;
Brentford v Arsenal
JR: 1-2. ‘Brentford will be buoyant in their PL debut however Arsenal should have too much despite this stinking like the type of game that Arsenal would fall victim to.’
CH: 0-2. ‘Think Brentford will be decent, but Arsenal should win it.’
Manchester United v Leeds
JR: 3-1. ‘Goal fest in the same fixture last season and expecting goals again this year. Think United have too much for Bielsa’s side.’
CH: 2-1. ‘United 90th minute penalty to win it.’
Burnley v Brighton
JR: 1-1. ‘Game reeks of a draw. No other reason behind the selection.’
CH: 0-1. ‘Purely because Brighton look like a football team at times whereas Burnley are just Burnley.’
Chelsea v Crystal Palace
JR: 2-0. ‘Should be a comfortable home win to give Chelsea a strong start, fancy Havertz to shine.’
CH: 3-0. ‘Not even the invincibles could save Palace here.’
Everton v Southampton -
JR: 1-0. ‘Not expecting too much from this game. Unsure of the availability of some Everton players but also expecting goals to be at a premium.’
CH: 2-0. ‘Think Rafa will get Everton playing well. Southampton, to put it kindly are f*cked.’
Leicester v Wolves
JR: 2-0. ‘Leicester to carry on from their strong showing at Wembley last week and be too much to Wolves’ first outing under Lage.’
CH: 3-1. ‘Leicester with their typical good start to the season.’
Watford v Villa
JR: 0-2. ‘Slightly hesitant on this one as Villa have a few knocks (Watkins & Buendia) and new signing Leon Bailey yet to feature yet. Giving them the benefit of the doubt here.’
CH: 0-2. ‘Watford will struggle this year. Even with some injury doubts, Villa still have Ings.
Norwich v Liverpool
JR: 0-3. ‘Don’t actually think it will be as comfortable as expected, however can’t not back an away win here.’
CH: 0-4. ‘Liverpool v Norwich, enough said.
Newcastle v West Ham
JR: 2-2. ‘Newcastle back in front of their fans, but perhaps without Joe Willock. Expecting goals galore much like the fixture here last season but can’t call the winner.’
CH: 1-1. ‘West Ham lost their spark in Lingard... Who would have thought I would ever say that.’
Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City
JR: 1-3. ‘Fancy goals again here but also a pretty comfortable home win with Son’s annual goal v City as consolation.
CH: 0-3. ‘City will be hard to beat again this year. Spurs may still have Kane for now, but they’re still shite.’
